Hello my friends
and, if you are in the United States, I also want to wish you a Happy Labor
Day. I hope you are spending the day
doing something wonderful and taking it a little bit easy. Labor Day is supposed to be a day off to
rest, but I've often used it as an extra day to work on tasks or projects. Now that I'm retired however, that seems to
be much less of an issue for me. August
was a busy month for me right up to the very last day so I decided to take it
easy this past weekend and today too so I can have a little R&R. No shame in that, in fact, I strongly
recommend. Downtime is a good thing.
Last week I
cooked, cleaned, did laundry, entertained, worked on some sewing projects, had
a doctor appointment, did some grocery shopping and even managed to get a few
things on my quarterly checklist completed.
Oh, and I celebrated a birthday too.
I'm now 58 years young. And my
girls completely forgot about it, which tells me they are incredibly busy and
overwhelmed with life right now.
Nonetheless, I was still adequately spoiled and enjoyed a very nice day
going out to breakfast, opening presents and having a wonderful dinner prepared
for me. There was wine too. And chocolate mousse!
Someone wants to make sure I don't get bored 😆
It has been
unusually hot, hot, hot here and it has been like that for most of the summer
which has wreaked some havoc on my poor garden and flowerbeds. I've lost a few plants recently and my garden
pretty much dried up and stopped growing.
No amount of watering seemed to help.
I've pretty much pulled up everything in the veggie garden except for
the tomatoes which aren't doing very well either, sadly. I'll probably pull those up pretty soon too
and decide if I will try again next year or not. Gardening is definitely not one of those
things I excel at.
I may have rehabbed this poor doll
Let me know if you want to see what I did with her
I've had some
company lately and we ate fairly well this past week starting out with a nice
pot of soup and a salad. I took the
leftover pot roast from the week before and used it to make some delicious pasta sauce which I served
over leftover pasta I had squirreled away in the freezer several weeks
ago. Corndogs and tater tots even made
it on the menu one night when we were too tired to cook. My birthday dinner was the best though. We each had a salmon fillet and shared a
grilled rib eye steak with green beans as the side. All leftovers got eaten up too so we had no
food waste.
It wasn't my
most productive week, but it was a good one.
I hope you all enjoyed a nice week and the heat isn't too bad where you
live. Ready for fall? I think I am.
Happy belated birthday!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lona. :)
DeleteHappy belated birthday to you. You said your daughters forgot, too bad. And recently you mentioned sons so I am a bit confused. I only hear about your daughters. You have both? Enlighten me!
ReplyDeleteThank you Tammy.
DeleteI am a proud mama of four. My oldest son passed away quite some time ago, my youngest son lives out of state and has for several years and my two girls, one lives out of state now and the other is still here in town. Time flies and everything is changing!
Happy belated birthday. So happy you had such a lovely birthday.
ReplyDeleteYes. I'm ready for fall.. but dread winter. Lol
Resting time is just as nice as the weeks of accomplishing things. Just enjoy your retirement. You deserve it.
What about Laverne? Do you still have it? Plans for traveling?
Thank you Judy. Winters can be rough. I do have Laverne, but gas prices and pretty much the price of everything right now have put a lot of things on hold this year.
DeleteAgree. It has put a halt on lots of our retirement plans too. But, I still enjoy my retirement and
DeleteLots of things I finally have time to achieve 🙌.
Me too! I'm enjoying the heck out of myself these days!
DeleteHappy Birthday! Don't feel bad about the kids... I KNOW our daughters love us, yet the oldest regularly misses mentioning our birthdays, Father's Day, Mother's Day...she's pretty good about Thanksgiving and Christmas, though.
ReplyDeleteHow about a post on the chickens??
They are in their own world right now. I'll have to work on a chicken post. ;)
DeletePs. I would love to see the doll's rehab.
ReplyDeleteI will show you once I get her done ;)
DeleteSounds like a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteHappiest of birthday wishes!
Thanks so much Kathy
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday! You are a year younger than me. I am so looking forward to retirement. I realize yours was a necessity due to your health (smart girl, to do that.) I'm eagerly planning for mine in 6 years this week. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for your garden, don't give up. Try again next year. Even if it's just containers. Mine was not as productive as it is in "normal" years and yet, I have enough potatoes and onions to get me through the winter. (I am canning the potatoes and drying the onions.) Enough Swiss Chard to last a while depending on how I preserve it (drying or canning or freezing OR all 3). Carrots (my first time growing) for several weeks. I canned green beans, enough for me as DH doesn't care for any except store bought. And while I don't have the tomato overload I normally do, I have enough to can into juice and sauce. God does provide even in a drought. :)
Your garden sounds wonderful. Okay, I will try again in the spring. ;)
