My Tireless Retirement - Week 62

Good Monday morning my friends.  This past week was a very FULL one and I tackled a lot of punch list and “to do” items as well as crammed in some fun.  It was definitely a productive time as I did a little bit of everything last week.

I was able to fit all of this into one box

I began by doing some more decluttering, consolidating and organizing of my craft supplies.  After working on the beads I was inspired to keep going and was happy to eliminate two more boxes of stuff making my journal and card making supplies much more manageable.  I didn’t get rid of much, just got better organized.

I got my shrubs all trimmed and the flowerbed cleaned up

I had one lattice roof panel on my pergola that wasn’t attached because I ran out of chicken wire.  I only needed a two foot piece so complete it, but I definitely wasn’t interested in purchasing an entire roll.  Knowing I was redoing the garden space this year I opted to wait so I could reuse my old trellis which contained a large piece of chicken wire.  Last week I got out my ladder and was able to fit on the piece of chicken wire and then use nails and tack the lattice in place.  At long last my pergola is officially completed and I was able to check another item off of my punch list.

I love not having cables strung all over the side of the house

Another item on my “to-do” list that has been nagging me for quite a while was to climb up on the roof and cut off the cables off the satellite dish I haven’t used in over ten years.  As someone who is afraid of heights I wasn’t looking forward to this chore at all, but I mustered up my courage and got up there and got it done.  Once the cables were cut I was able to pull all of the cables off the roof and side of my house which looks so much better I cannot even tell you.  No more ugly junky looking cables strung all over the side of my house.  I wish I had done it sooner.

I just love my yard!

I got out the leaf blower and tidied up the yard from all the storm debris over the previous week.  Little did I know that by the end of the week I would be tidying up two more times.  Boy, oh boy, have we had some weather lately.  We got so much rain one day that the storm drains were overwhelmed and the entire street washed up into my driveway leaving a bunch of muddy sludge as well as tree matter and some trash for me to clean up.  I didn’t get a picture of it and I wish I did, but I was so anxious to clean up the mess that I didn’t even think about taking one.  Suffice it to say it was a lot of mess, but I think my neighborhood should squeaky clean now after all of that.

Crafting in my girl 😊

To break up my week Laverne and I headed out for a couple days to stay in a nice campground and enjoy a midweek crafter’s weekend retreat of sorts.  With all that was going on around here I figured the only way I’d get some time to myself to focus on some crafting items I wanted to get done was to leave home.  It worked and I surprised myself by getting done everything I had on my list even though I wasn’t expecting to finish up that much stuff at all.

Ham & cheese omelet a la motorhome - best ever! 😋

Along with crafting I went on several walks, went through the visitor’s center and museum, visited with other campers, enjoyed the wildlife, relaxed, slept like a baby each night and ate some good camp food.  I was well rested, even felt a little bit spoiled, and happily fulfilled by the time I got home.  With my personal tank refilled I was ready to head home and get back to work on whatever needed to be done.  I even got Laverne vacuumed and tidied back up so she is ready to head out again on our next great adventure.

Some of my creations

I did quite a bit of grocery shopping at three different stores to restock my fridge, freezer and add a few pantry items.  I was able to meal prep several of the items I bought and harvested some rhubarb from my yard, all of which ended up in the freezer to be used in future meals and desserts.  I should be set for quite some time, possibly the remainder of the summer and well into fall, for the most part.  Fresh produce and dairy will still be on my regular shopping list going forward.

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and productive week.  Have you had any crazy weather systems roll through where you live?  Find any great deals at the grocery stores?  Or, accomplished something on your “to-do” list?

  2. So happy you and Laverne had an enjoyable trip.
We have had tons of rain, storms all around us.
I have been sewing this week. Outfit for great grandaughter, and biblical costumes for church plays. Lots of fun.

  3. I don't have a camper plus I do have family commitments but you've inspired me to take a day off to myself and go on a mini, one day "vacation". I actually did that 2 years ago when my mother was to be hospitalized for several weeks. I realized that in order to get through it all I needed to be fully recharged. So I took a day and did things as if I was on vacation. It was only one day but boy did I feel better the next day!
