My Tireless Retirement – Week 159

It has felt so good to be feeling better and to be getting back into the swing of things.  I began this week by working all day Friday and then enjoying a quiet and relaxed evening eating reheated leftovers and watching a movie, then off to bed for a really good night of sleep.  Since being sick I’ve really appreciated a solid and restful sleep because I feel so much better when I get up in the morning.

I used pear butter as the filling 😋

With my appetite returning I decided Saturday morning to bake a coffee cake and brew a pot of coffee.  I then invited two dear friends to come and sit with me, enjoy a slice with some freshly brewed caramel pecan coffee with cream as well as good conversation and a lot of laughter.  We enjoyed ourselves so much.  It was the perfect way to start my weekend.

All back in order

Our weather has improved and that had me back outside finishing up my interior work on the Subaru.  I then turned my attention to cleaning my truck to remove anything that had accumulated on the floor over the winter.  After a thorough vacuuming it was back in tip top shape.  I was immediately reminded of how much easier it is to clean up a vehicle when you do it on a regular basis and don’t allow it to become filthy dirty inside.  I have always been one who has to have a spotlessly clean vehicle with zero clutter inside, absolutely no trash and I don’t mind putting in the work to keep it that way.  It just feels good to me to drive a neat and tidy vehicle.

Hello Daisy!

I also spent the weekend doing laundry and my regular housekeeping and even though I was busy I still managed to carve out some time to spend visiting with friends, go to a movie and allow myself some downtime to journal, write, relax and get in some good kitty snuggles as well as quality time spent with Miss Daisy bunny and my chickens, both young and old.  It was the best weekend!

They are getting so big!

Monday I was up and at it enjoying a slow start to my day with hot coffee, kitties and my laptop to do some more writing.  After puttering around the house for a bit I headed off to work for a few hours and then back home to pull up a bucket full of weeds which I promptly gave to my senior chickens.  It cracks me up to see Phoebe watches me pull weeds because she gets so excited and does quite the little happy dance as she impatiently waits for me to bring her the bucket.  Oh my gosh, it is so stinking funny!

New floormats for the Subaru

Tuesday I spent the day running errands.  I went to the post office to mail an Easter package to my aunt and then to the dollar store to pick up a few bottles of my favorite Fabuloso cleaner.  I chose three different fragrances.  Next I stopped for gas and then headed back home.  Wednesday was another day spent working on various tasks both inside and outdoors.  I found plenty to keep me busy including ticking some tasks off of my quarterly housekeeping checklist.

Thursday I headed back to work to take a dozen seniors out to dinner and then to the theater for another fun and hilarious live performance.  Have I ever mentioned how much I love my “job”?  There are days I can’t believe I actually get paid to do this.  And with that another retirement week rapidly came to an end while another one begins.  I hope you all enjoy a very Happy Easter.  What kept you busy this past week?

  1. I love how your new trio has entered their "gawky teenager" phase. So awkward-looking, but you know they will end up beautiful. And I can just see Phoebe doing a happy dance at the thought of all those juicy greens coming her way (IF YOU WOULD ONLY HURRY UP, PLEASE!!). LOL!

Happy Easter to you and your adorable animal family!

  2. I 100% agree with you about a clean car! My husband's truck always smelled like a camel's rear, no matter how often I scrubbed it. I was happy to be rid of it. Once it gets filthy, the smell lingers in the upholstery. YUCK.

    1. Camel's rear could've applied in this situation as well. Not that I've ever smelled one before... LOL!!

  4. Something popped up on my YouTube feed after I wrote my other comment. It was a video by a retired man talking about retirement drift. That has been the phrase I've been searching for! You are the exact opposite of retirement drift. If I understand his explanation it happens when you don't have specific plans for retirement beyond say I'm going to golf more & relax. Folks who lacked hobbies, ongoing interests & social activities- things to do & people to be with -often have a hard time adjusting to life in retirement.

I think I would add that you have to be motivated to do things- unlike work where you are probably being prompted & guided by forces outside of yourself. At work you have to get a report done by Friday. But in retirement no one cares if you reorganize your closet by Friday or clean your car tomorrow..

I do think there is some adjustment time needed. Like you do need to veg out for a bit and reestablish yourself and who you are in this part of life. Sadly, I know retirees who have never done that and they are bitter and disappointed at life.

    1. I've hear that term applied to finances and investments, but not to retirement life. Now you have me thinking I should research it as well. I am so sad for the people you know that are bitter and disappointed, but I see that it happens a lot, including a relative of mine. That is a big reason why I approach my retirement the way that I do.

  5. I love a clean car especially the interior. Sometimes mine isn’t great but I work on it. I’m having to comment anonymously because Google isn’t letting me even though I’m logged in

  6. Wow! You have been busy :) Now I feel I need to go clean out my car! It's mostly napkins and straw papers :) But they accumulate and look messy when they pile up in the pocket of the door. Your energy is an inspiration! Have a wonderful Easter Sunday!
