My Tireless Retirement – Week 166

May ended HOT!  A record breaking 102° hot!  June, however came in nice and cool, thankfully.  What a difference a day makes.  We had been enjoying some above average temperatures in that final week of May, but fortunately the nights cooled down so I was able to stay comfortable using my box fan in the window once the sun went down.  This past week we were back to normal weather wise.  I’m not quite ready to commit to using the A/C yet.  I prefer fresh air over refrigerated air, but I know eventually I’ll have to give in.  Hopefully not until closer to the end of the month!

I need to use these up!

I went through all of my office supplies in the drawers under the TV and found a few items I no longer need or use.  An extra box of 50 envelopes, a package of labels for CDs (I no longer burn CDs nor do I have any to burn if I wanted to), three school folders and a ruler, as well as an old digital camera and tripod.  I pulled out a small stack of post it notes and a notepad I’ve had forever to start using up.  Why have it if you’re not going to use it?

A lot more space underneath the sink now

While I was at it I also went through my first aid and over the counter medication bin and found a ton of stuff I needed to toss, mostly in the form of older medicines like the jar of VapoRub that exploded everywhere, some really old aspirin and some even older cough drops that had gone sticky.  By the time I was through I was able to downsize to a storage bin that was half the size of the one I cleared out.  Now that I am no longer raising a family I just don’t need to stock a whole lot of that kind of stuff anymore.  Win!

I played in my craft room!!! 😍

I still feel like I have way too much stuff in this house and I probably do.  A lot of it is related to my craft and sewing supplies and rather than worry about how I’m going to landscape the crater in my yard I’ve decided to push the pause button and instead focus my attention on something I’d much rather be doing anyway and that is spending time in my beloved craft room/guest room (I use the term guest room loosely – LOL).  I’ve waited long enough.  The time has come!

I made some delicious jam 😋

With the last of my robust cleaning completed I was able to relax quite a bit this past week and simply enjoy the serenity.  I basically spent the week doing what I wanted, when I wanted and played a quite a bit.  I even brought home a jigsaw puzzle from the senior center to work while I watched TV.  I did get into the craft room and had some fun in there (posts on my projects will be coming), got busy in the kitchen and did a fun canning project and I went out and watered my flowers and pulled a few weeds.  It was nice to just enjoy my yard without it being a chore.  I’m happy with my decision not to plant a garden this year.

No rain in the forecast but I want them to have some shade protection

Hi Mom!
They have grown so much it is time to get them into the coop soon

Lastly, this week I had two things on my list to complete.  First was to go to Costco to do some unshopping (returns) and I unspent $50 (refund).  That felt good to get those things off of the top of the clothes dryer and out of the house, not to mention the money I got back.  Next was to get home and move the chickies out of the garage to the backyard so they can start to get acclimated to the older girls.  I set them up next to the coop, gave them a cover with a poorly folded way too big tarp and introduced them to the girlies.  I’ll be happy once the chickies are in the coop so they have a lot more room to run around and they can scratch in the dirt.

My deck definitely needs to be re-stained

Not a super exciting week, but I sure did enjoy it.  Especially all that fun stuff I did!  How was your week?

  1. It started getting hot here in April....A/C is pretty much a year round thing where I live. You jam sounds great. I didn't really do much on the creative front this week, so I will make plans for that next week!
