In case you haven’t guessed yet, feeding people is my love language, for sure. I love to cook and bake and I love to share my meals and goodies with others. Holiday meals are special and I like to pull out all the stops. This year is no exception. We will be eating well at this house as Christmas and New Year’s Day unfolds.
Last year's dinner was amazing!
Traditions are wonderful and I love them, but I also like to occasionally veer off course a bit and try new things from time to time. This Christmas Eve we’ll be enjoying our usual Christmas Day Dinner of Rib Eye Steaks Au Jus, Yorkshire Pudding and a Caesar Salad.
Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms last year for New Year's Day
Also a very good option!
Christmas Day I will be doing something completely different by putting on a beef stew to simmer all day in my slow cooker and serving that with some homemade dinner rolls. I can hardly wait. It sounds delicious!
New Year’s Eve we will be enjoying homemade Chinese food – Pork or Chicken Chow Mein, Egg Rolls and Fried Rice along with a Crab Rangoon starter to eat while we play games or do whatever happens to strike our fancy. On New Year’s Day we will enjoy steaks, potatoes of some kind, a salad and a vegetable too, probably broccoli.
Along with these meals there will be plenty of goodies. I made my grandmother’s fruitcake over the Thanksgiving holiday and it is ready for slicing. I also plan to make gingerbread cookies (a family favorite), pumpkin pie (my favorite), lemon bars and fudge.
I often make cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning
Will you be doing any cooking for the holidays? What are some of your favorites?
That all sounds great. What lucky family and friends!
ReplyDeleteI cook Christmas eve dinner. On Christmas it's usually leftovers or whatever is in the fridge. My mom started that when we were kids. She'd make a huge Christmas Day dinner like Thanksgiving and no one really wanted to eat. So she started setting out more snack type stuff or have simple foods in the fridge to fix as we wanted it. Now I think mostly everyone eats my homemade cinnamon rolls and some of the cookies we've made and not much else! I'll admit it took some years for my husband to adjust to not having another Thanksgiving on Christmas. But our kids were never interested in eating and I didn't miss out on all the fun because I was cooking!
For Christmas eve I think it's going to be homemade lasagna and 2 roasted chickens from Sam's. I usually cook the meat but I'm going to let Sam's do that this year!
I am hosting my husband's side of the family on December 23rd. We are doing a pot luck. I am making French Dip sandwiches, penne with meatballs, deviled eggs, and Texas sheet cake. For Christmas, I am making a Prime Rib, twice Baked Potatoes, and salad. We were just invited to New Year's Eve dinner at our neighbors. I am not sure what we are having for dinner. We were asked to bring Champagne. New Year's Day is fried pork chops, collards, black eyed peas, and cornbread. (We live in the south.)
