Getting Things Done! - Spring 2025

We typically have fairly wet and rainy spring seasons around here so it can make tackling projects a bit hit or miss.  I still like to make up a project list and while in times past I was hardcore about getting everything ticked off the list I am much more relaxed about these “to-do” lists nowadays.  If it gets done great, if not, well I’ll get to it eventually.

Peeps!

The biggest priority project I had planned this spring was to work on expanding my flock and to clean out the chicken coop and add that to the compost bin.  DONE.  I now have three new peeps to add to the flock later this summer and my current senior ladies are happily living in a cleaned out coop with lots of pine shavings spread about as well as a freshened up pen area.  All of the litter from the coop as well as everything I raked out of their pen area has been added to the compost bin as well as my raised garden beds.

Beef & barley soup for the shelf

While some people tend to do their home canning in the summer and fall I tend to can foods year round.  This year my goal was to refill the soup shelf and add some more meat to the LTFS.  DONE.  Not only have I added soup, broth and meat to the LTFS, but I also added some more canned beans.  In addition to the canned goods I was also able to fill up my freezer with a lot of vacuum sealed meats and some produce.

Work on my “new” Subaru has begun.  I was able to enjoy some sunshine and pull a couple of dents, remove some bumper scuffs, refurbish the foggy headlights and clean the engine.  The big priority item this spring, as far as the car was concerned, was to change the oil and do some routine maintenance.  DONE.

Always a priority for me is to keep a clean and decluttered home and maintain it.  As a result I no longer need to do a marathon of spring cleaning sessions each year and for that I am truly grateful.  Once the weather warms up and in between rainstorms I do like to get my windows washed, the tracks wiped out and then open the windows to air out my home.  DONE.

I made a complete sweep through the house, checking drawers and closets, to remove any items I no longer want, need our use.  After filing my taxes I collected all of the paperwork that is no longer needed as well as old documents and tax returns I no longer need to store.  Then I sat down and ran a nice pile through the paper shredder.  I also wanted to clear out my digital files and delete anything that wasn’t necessary to have on my laptop and back up anything I deemed important onto a thumb drive.  DONE.

Some wardrobe replacements

In the process of decluttering I made a list of items to replace which included a pair of shoes, a pair of pants, pajamas, a bra and a sweater.  I also checked my LTFS nonfood area and made up a restock list based off of what I was low on including cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, paper products and toiletries.  I then set out to complete that restock list as items I needed came on sale or were found at a good price such as bonus size bottles at regular price.  DONE.

A well stocked freezer

With most of my project list checked off it feels good to see the progress I have made so far.  While I haven’t yet completed all of the tasks on the list I will continue to work on them as the weather warms up and we head into the drier season.  I will always have more to do and will likely be adding more projects to list.  As time allows I’ll get to them, but I’m definitely not going to push myself too hard or worry about what doesn’t get done.  No one has time for that!

  1. Great job!! It is always so much easier to stay on top of things. I'm really not much of a shopper and I routinely go through everything but it amazes me each time I do what I am now ready to part with. There is a purge going on right now in my office/craft room so wish me luck. lol

  4. You've been busy, as have I! I am finding time each day to make progress on a number of things and what ever doesn't get crossed off the list today gets done eventually. Today I am tackling the pollen buds that have taken over my back patio. One task at a time, no stress!
