My Tireless Retirement - Week 31

Our winter weather has definitely arrived.  All last week the temperatures steadily decreased and on Friday morning I awoke to our first snowfall of the season.  It got cold enough that night that sometime in the early morning hours the house got cold enough that the main heating kicked on downstairs.  Yep, winter weather is here.

Snow falling and still lots of leaves on the trees

I spent the majority of my week inside.  I went to Albertson's at the beginning of the week to pick up a few produce items on sale and then came right home.  I think last Monday was the warmest day of our week too so I was glad I decided to get my errands done that day.

The kitties just want a warm place to snuggle up and take a nap

I don't do well in cold weather, my arthritis settles in and makes it difficult to get around.  It has settled into my knees, ankles and wrists.  The kitties don't do well in cold weather either so I played door monitor quite a bit as they headed outside to do what they needed to do and then wanted back inside.  Of course they won't go out together at the same time, that would be sensible, so I do have to get up and down quite a bit, which is good for me.

I celebrated the end of October by putting away all of my Halloween décor Tuesday, taking my time to wash the holiday dish towels with my laundry and making sure I got it all gathered together before I packed it up and put the bin away in the garage.  I'm always sad to put it away because I have such cute Halloween stuff.  On Wednesday I set out the "special turkey", lit a vanilla jar candle and declared my Thanksgiving decorating complete.

Last week I did a lot of writing, some planning and some paper crafting so I kept myself fairly busy.  I finished up making my 2023 dayplanner and I'll be sharing more about that in my next post on Wednesday.  I also started a big journal binder to organize and store my writing journals in each year.

I tried out the jar sealer out on some leftover Halloween candy

A friend sent me a jar sealer and I've already tried it out.  It works perfectly and I am super excited to have this to add to my food storage and preservation supplies.  My head is spinning now with all the things I can do with this thing.  He knew I would like it and boy, was he ever right.  It is like Christmas came early!

I made a hot and spicy curry soup to work on throughout the week.  It is delicious and warms me right up.  It is also the perfect soup to have if you get sick and have a cold.  It will certainly clear your sinuses.  I also made myself a little Fall themed cake (not low carb), just because, and I've been enjoying a little piece of that each day with a cup of hot coffee or tea.

I hope you are all doing well my friends and I wish you a great week ahead.  Stay warm and take care.

  1. Oh wow, snow already! We’re still in the high 70’s and 70’s here. I’ve only had to turn the heater on once so far this fall. I can’t wait to see your day planner. I just love planners! Your cake looks delicious!

  2. We got the cold weather too. Highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. This morning it looked like Dec or Jan. with the frost on everything. We have most of the outside things ready for winter but do need to bring the rest of the cattle herd home. We brought home the fall calvers yesterday. Today I am making bread for the week and will be making a menu from my pantry. Should not need to buy ANYTHING this week. Which is good because it is bill paying week.
