Happy
Monday! The first week of October is in
the books and I think I managed to make the most of it. We got a good bit of rain over the weekend
and into the beginning of the week. The
temperatures were a little on the chilly side, especially overnight. I’ve noticed a lot more leaves changing
colors on the trees too. I also noticed I
have blooms on my chrysanthemums now.
I set out my Halloween decor like this sign and a black cat and a ghost!
With the rain
and the change in weather I’ve decided not to do anymore watering of my garden
or the flowerbeds and let everything taper off.
The cooler temperatures have allowed me a fresh flush of zucchinis on my
plants so I’m hoping they have a chance to mature before the first frost. I’ve been picking tomatoes nearly every day
and I still have a lot of green ones. I
will watch the weather reports closely and plan to pick all of the tomatoes to
allow them to ripen indoors. I’ve been
freezing the tomatoes with a plan to make sauce with them. Once all of the green tomatoes ripen I’ll get
that task taken care of. I sliced up a
handful of banana peppers and added them to my pickle jar. Those should
be good on a sandwich or in a salad.
My Halloween decor declutter pile
I no longer need
the box fan in the living room to bring in the cool morning air so I gave it a
good cleaning before storing it in the hall closet until I need it again in the
spring. I am always amazed at how dirty
these fans get and while I don’t enjoy this particular chore at all, I sure do
love the results once I’m done. They
look new again and I’m sure keeping them clean helps them to last much longer,
not to mention I’m not blowing dirt all over my house while using them.
Last week I
pulled out the fleece jacket I like to use in the fall and early spring and
tossed it into the wash so it is fresh and clean and ready for me to wear. Dug out my winter pajamas and slippers
too. Yep, it is definitely that time of
year again. All that being said I have
yet to turn on the heat or even used the fireplace, but I did give everything a
thorough cleaning so they are ready to go.
With the warming trend we have this week I’m hopeful not to have to turn
them on any time soon.
Fireplace was deep cleaned and maintenance completed
I also washed curtains, cleaned windows and mopped floors
It was also time
to pull out a fresh housekeeping checklist and get started again. I
cannot believe I’ve started the fourth quarter cleaning schedule of this year already.
Last week I did underneath the stove and
refrigerator and found it took me only five minutes each to complete. As time goes on I find the tasks, because of
the routine and frequency, are taking less and less time. I love it!
My big grocery haul last week was a 2# block of cheese on sale
I popped in and grabbed it on the way home from an appointment
Overall, it was
a pretty steady and productive week for me.
I’m feeling winter ready and incredibly grateful for all that I am
blessed with. I hope you all enjoyed a
great week as well.
